Impressive Torrontes with intense aromatics and a vibrant, fruit filled palate
Argentina's signature white grape Torrontés is slowly building some momentum here in the US and one of the finer examples comes from Domingo Molina.
A basic tenant for Torrontés is that the best come from around Cafayate, in Salta Province in the high-elevation northwest reaches of Argentina. These high elevation vineyards, ranging from 5,800 to 7,300 feet above sea level, coupled with 340 days of sunshine, are famous for their aromatic and intensely flavored Torrontés, which no other wine region in Argentina can emulate in terms of quality.
One of our favorite producers from this area is Domingo Molina, and their just released 2017 Hermanos Torrontés is a terrific example of how a well-made Torrontés should taste. Floral and lifted aromatics flow into clean fruit lines of white orchard fruit with nice countering acidity, which is a must if one is to make something interesting from the grape. Torrontés needs a firm backbone of acidity and the Hermanos de Domingo Molina Torrontes 2017 2017 has it in spades, working in sync with the intense, perfumed fruit flavors. We are offering this unique Argentine white for $14.99 and $13.49 on a six bottle or more purchase. The Domingo Molina hermanos of Osvaldo, Gabriel and Rafael must be very proud of this current release.
