An impressive Cabernet from McLaren Vale

An impressive Cabernet from McLaren Vale

Kevin O'Brien, the owner and winemaker at Kangarilla Road in McLaren Vale, stopped by our store recently and showed us a few of his wines from his impressive portfolio.

The one wine that really got our attention was the 2013 Kangarilla Road Cabernet Sauvignon . McLaren Vale has a reputation for its Shiraz and Grenache but one should not turn their nose up at some of the Cabernet coming out of the area. McLaren Vale is in this very exciting stage of rediscovery. They know that Mediterranean varietals work well, but they are discovering how different sub-regions of McLaren Vale do so well with different grapes. Plus, many winemakers in the Vale make Cabernet the same way they make Shiraz, so the key for Cabernet, or any new varietal is the site and the winemaker’s experience.

Kangarilla Road has proven time and time again that Cabernet in the right hands can be quite a compelling drop as well. As Kevin mentioned, his 2013 Cabernet is just now starting to hit its sweet spot with another 5 plus years of great drinking in front of it. The extra couple of years of extended bottle age has really polished this up beautifully. We are offering this impressive McLaren Vale Cabernet for $16.99 a bottle and $15.29 on a six bottle or more deal. A solid James Halliday 92 pts and some extra bottle age make this a great buy.
