Lynx Cabernet Franc 2017 - gorgeous rendition of the varietal
We have known about Lynx winery since about 2004 and have been consistently impressed by their consistency and value, with all of their wines being right around the $20 mark.
The Lynx Cabernet Franc is a fairly new addition to the portfolio and has impressed us with its elegance and pedigree and not being weighed down by herbal or green notes that sometimes accompany the varietal. Lynx has advanced Cabernet Franc in the Franschhoek Valley and received recognition from international critics as well as developing a cult following.
A savory cast to the dark fruit on the nose brings forth earth toned notes, a floral lift, some of the varietal’s leafiness, as well as a touch of pencil lead/graphite aromatically. Medium fuller in body, the palate shows beautiful balance and elegance, textural mid-palate suppleness with tannins that are finer grained and framing the dark fruit flavors perfectly with a note of graphite on the finish. There are no angular edges here; this is almost seamless with noted length and a finely tuned elegance that speaks of the wine’s pedigree. The Lynx Cabernet Franc 2017 is real beauty that is showing well now, this should drink wonderfully over the next 2-3 years quite easily.
