Simply outstanding - this is why we love Cape Chenin Blanc
We have been very impressed over the last 10 years by the advances in Chenin Blanc, which makes us ask why so many people go for Chardonnay when they could get a similarly priced Chenin Blanc which is much more interesting.
When we get the opportunity to try a wine like the Stellenrust Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2016 we sit back in awe and take it all in. South African Chenin Blanc, especially at the upper end, has been receiving its due recognition, and in light of its pricing is still one of the great values in the wine world. This particular wine is a stellar offering. The interesting thing about the Stellenrust Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc is that there is very little information on it, other than a review from British Master of Wine (MW) Tim Atkin who makes South Africa a priority in his reviews, giving this a 94 pts Tim Atkin score. Given the lack of information we don’t know how old the Old Bush Vines are, suffice it to say that in South Africa vines over 35 years are considered “old”.
The winery web site does not show anything about the wine and the John Platter Guide has never even listed it going back as far as we can see. But regardless of all that, the wine stands on its own merits and is almost impossible to actually get a hold of. We have been fortunate to procure enough to do an offering for our valued customers on this unique and utterly-delicious wine. It has noteworthy palate presence with its gorgeous and layered fruit with a finish you can keep time with. We are offering this captivating Old Bush Vine Chenin for $34.99 a bottle and $29.99 on a six bottle or more purchase. This kind of quality at this price point is pretty hard to beat and when compared with many of the upper-tier Chenin we have been fortunate to have tried, this is all of that if not more. Very impressive.
