Great Value on this Margaret River Chardonnay
If you have paid any attention at all, you probably know that we have a fetish with pretty much anything to do with Margaret River, and if we could live there we would. One of the reasons has to be the wine
Well-made Chardonnay, like well-made Cabernet Sauvignon, is always in fashion, and when smartly priced it is even more appealing. Western Australia's Margaret River is famous for its exceptional Cabernet and Chardonnay and when you can find superior quality with value, as is the case of the 2016 Xanadu Exmoor Chardonnay, you take note. The Xanadu Exmoor Chardonnay 2016 is an interesting play on the varietal, it was given full oak treatment in predominantly older French barriques, without going through malo-lactic fermentation. To add textural richness it was given extensive lees stirring to help bring creaminess to the mid palate.
The end result is a wine that has richness and good palate weight without being buttery, having a clean focused fruit profile of pear, citrus and peach, that finishes dry and long. Aussie wine guru, James Halliday, gave it a 91 pt review where he stated: "Xanadu is on a roll from the top of the quality/price tree to the bottom, this a great example of the latter." We are offering this impressive, value-oriented Margaret River Chardonnay for $14.99 and $13.49 on a six bottle or more purchase. Just starting to drink spot on as we speak, this has several more years of great drinking in front of it.
